The Kalahari Copper Belt

The Kalahari Copper Belt is a major sediment-hosted copper-silver province stretching northeast from northern Namibia into Botswana, with geological similarities to the prolific Central African Copperbelt. Copper and silver mineralization is primarily found at the contact between the D’Kar Formation and the underlying Ngwako Pan Formation, showing strong structural associations with faults, domes, and thrust systems.

Botswana’s portion of the belt has attracted significant attention, with the MMG-operated Khoemacau mine establishing the commercial scale of the system, and Sandfire Resources’ Motheo operation further demonstrating the belt’s production potential.

In Namibia, the extension of the Kalahari Copper Belt is largely covered by sand, limiting the effectiveness of conventional surface exploration. Despite this, previous work has confirmed the presence of the right geological stratigraphy, favourable structural features, and demonstrated copper-silver fertility, both at the D’Kar contact and within the D’Kar formation itself.

Nearby Kalahari Success

The commercial and exploration success of adjacent operators reinforces the prospectivity of the Kalahari Copper Belt and the strategic value of Safi Silver’s land position. Noronex, an active explorer in the Namibian portion of the belt, has reported encouraging drill results at its Fiesta Prospect, confirming copper-silver mineralization along the same rock layers found within Safi Silver’s licence area.
